Why is there so much of it...?

I have been a packaging designer for more years than I care to remember. From private label packs to shrink-wrap labels and even custom-designed detergent PET bottles.
In all this time, I executed projects from a design aesthetic and production-cost perspective for my global clients. Very often, the choice of materials was already pre-determined before my agency even got the call. In many instances, the material of choice was plastic (or a derivative thereof), and it is only in the last few years that the full impact of plastic waste has weighed so heavily on my environmental-conscience. Sure, I have always proposed alternative (bio-degradable) routes that could be taken but the bottom line ultimately was the production costs. Plastic won hands down and we, ultimately, are, ..'paying the price'.
We all live in a beautiful world....let's all, keep it that way - Keep plastic out of our seas and waterways!
